Glass Market Analysis: the demand for 0.2~0.3mm thick glass substrates has increased greatly
according to the observation of the trend of thin products by wits view, a research department under Jibang technology, with the hot sales of tablet computers and small and medium-sized products, the demand for thin and lighter product design has gradually become the mainstream, and also brought the demand for thin panels
wits view estimates that the ratio of switching thinned glass over the 5th generation production line of the overall panel industry will have a chance to reach the level of about 25% this year. Since the 6th generation line began to import 0.5mm glass substrate in 2010, the switching rate this year has a chance to reach 30% - 35%. With the switching of the 5th generation line to 0.4mm glass substrate in the second half of the year, the annual switching rate is expected to reach 20%, And there is still a chance to import 0.3mm glass substrate in the future
as for the switch from the 7th generation line to 0.5mm glass substrate, due to its large size and area and poor yield, the switch rate is expected to be less than 5% this year
in the past, due to the limitations of panel production equipment and the unwillingness of glass substrate manufacturers to increase product complexity, resulting in capacity losses, the thickness of glass substrates in each generation of production lines was fixed
wits view observed that in the 5th generation line of the panel factory, the mainstream thickness of the traditional glass substrate is the wings of the aircraft, which is not a big word for Nanshan aluminum. However, with the rise of the demand for tablet computers and the improvement of the stability of some small and medium-sized products, the demand for thinned glass, including 0.3mm or even 0.2mm, began to increase significantly
traditionally, the panel factory will further thin the 0.5mm glass substrate and color filter to 0.3mm or 0.2mm through chemical thinning. However, due to the large demand for thinning and limited production capacity, various foam plates with different thicknesses can be produced, and the overall chemical thinning cost has also increased significantly, making the panel factory further consider directly producing related products with 0.3mm glass substrate. However, due to the high cost of equipment transformation with 0.3mm glass substrate and the poor yield, the panel factory transfer plan takes 0.4mm glass substrate as the mainstream thickness of the 5-generation production line in the short term, and reduces the overall production cost by reducing the time required to thin to 0.3mm thickness
in terms of the supply side of glass substrates, wits view believes that with the increasing demand for relevant glasses, including TFT substrates, LTPS substrates and protective glasses, glass manufacturers have also changed their tough attitude towards glass thickness specifications in the past, hoping to achieve the goal of producing more glass substrates without increasing the capital expenditure of new glass furnaces by increasing the production of thinned glass. With the increase of the output and scale of thinned glass, the price of thinned glass has the opportunity to move closer to the existing products, which will stimulate panel factories to continue to increase the demand for thinned glass
wits view pointed out that with the maturing of existing panel products, the increasing demand for thin products has indeed become a highlight in the near future. Considering the cost, production scale and price strategy, both sides of the supply and demand of glass substrates continue to develop in this direction. Therefore, it can be predicted that the switching of thinned glass will become module 1: the macro analysis of carbon fiber and its composites will be one of the major changes in the production process of panels in the next oneortwo years
